The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with the students of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The State Minister provided 12 students from 7 different countries with the information about the situation in the occupied territories. The conversation touched upon the challenges and difficulties that exist in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, as well as in the villages along the dividing lines in terms of security and humanitarian issues. They talked about the restriction of education in the native language on the occupied territories and the violations of human rights.
Particular attention was paid to the Georgian government's peacekeeping policy, ongoing and future projects in reconciliation and involvement policy. The healthcare issues also was discussed. Especially the state programs that are implemented for persons residing in the occupied territories.
The Minister emphasized the role of public diplomacy in terms of conflicts resolution and noted that its necessary to double efforts in order to eliminate problems.
The participants also discussed the involvement of international community and the importance of their support in conflict resolution process. The Minister responded to the guests' questions about the format and efficiency of the Geneva international discussions.
This visit was held jointly by the Embassy of Georgia and the International Relations Club "Grimshaw" and its purpose was to raise awareness about the country's achievements and progress on democratic path of development.
The students also plan to visit in village of Khurvaleti and the temporary settlement of internally displaced persons in Tserovani and meet local population.
