Study Abroad

INTRODUCTION

The Government of Georgia implements special programs and offers the population of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region the same rights and privileges available for any citizen of Georgia, including the opportunity to participate in international educational programs and exchange programs for studying abroad.

Within the framework of these programs, pupils, students, and researchers living in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region are given the opportunity to continue their studies and carry out academic activities at leading American, European, and Asian universities with full and/or partial funding.

The Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union enables all interested individuals, for the purpose of obtaining high-quality, high-standard education, to participate in relevant educational programs and travel to EU member states for study.

Scholarship Programs

Erasmus+

As a result of close cooperation with the European Union, Georgia has become a partner country of the Erasmus+ program. Through this program, Georgia is entitled to participate in various fields and grant competitions.

The Erasmus Mundus program enables students from partner countries to receive funding to pursue a Master’s degree abroad. The scholarship covers tuition fees, travel expenses, and accommodation costs in the respective European country. The Erasmus+ program is administered by the European Commission, while coordination is carried out by the National Agency. An Erasmus+ National Office also operates in Georgia (erasmus.org.ge). Its aim is to raise awareness of the international components of the Erasmus+ program, enhance their relevance and importance, promote the program in Georgia, and support students interested in participating in it.

 

United States

The Fulbright Graduate Student Program was established in 1946 and is one of the most prestigious student programs funded by the U.S. government. Each year, the Fulbright program provides students from around the world, including Georgia, with the opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree in their chosen field and university in the United States. Candidates for the Fulbright Master’s program are selected through an open competition conducted by the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy.

Canada

The University of Toronto annually announces a competition for full scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies. Detailed information about the program and application procedures is available on the following website: pearson-scholarships.

 

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Chevening is the UK government’s global scholarship program, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and partner organizations. The program offers scholarships to students from Georgia who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential, enabling them to pursue a Master’s degree. The scholarship covers tuition, travel, and living expenses in the UK. Students can choose any Master’s program at any UK university and submit their application online.

Federal Republic of Germany

DAAD - the German Academic Exchange Service, is the world’s largest German organization that funds international exchange programs for students and researchers. The organization provides grants and scholarships for studying in Germany. DAAD lecturers have been active in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan since 1987/88. Since 2021, all three countries have been served by the DAAD Regional Office in Tbilisi: daad-georgia.org.

DAAD offers students, Master’s candidates, and researchers a wide range of courses and research opportunities, mostly in German, although some scholarships are also available in English. The scholarship covers tuition and living expenses in Germany.

French Republic

Campus France is the French national agency responsible for promoting French higher education abroad and offering scholarship programs to international students (campusfrance.org/en/bursaries-foreign-students).

In Georgia, a Campus France Corner operates under the French Institute of Georgia, coordinating various scholarship programs. (institutfrancais.ge/sastipendio-programebi/).

The programs cover all levels of higher education every year.

 

Hungary

The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, established by the Hungarian government in 2013, aims to increase the number of international students in Hungary, promote Hungarian higher education institutions, and attract the best foreign students to compete internationally.

The implementation of the program for Georgia, as a sending country, is based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed on July 6, 2020, between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for cooperation under the Stipendium Hungaricum program for 2021-2023.

The scholarship program funds undergraduate, Master’s, integrated Master’s (OTM), doctoral programs, semester exchange programs, and non-degree certificate courses.

Republic of Austria

The Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research of Austria annually announces various scholarship programs for students and researchers wishing to study at Austrian universities. Detailed information is available at the following link: grants.at/en/.

 

Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarship

The Austrian Development Cooperation announces a competition for full scholarships for undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral studies.

Applications can be submitted until February 6, 2026.

Slovak Republic

The Slovak government annually announces a competition for scholarships for undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral studies.

Visegrad Scholarship Program

The Visegrad Fund offers scholarships to students from Eastern Partnership countries. The scholarships are intended for Master’s and post-Master’s (doctoral/post-doctoral) studies and research at higher education institutions in the V4 region (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia).

Applicants must apply directly to universities in the V4 region and complete an online application at the following link: https://my.visegradfund.org/Account/Login.

The scholarship covers tuition and living expenses in the V4 country, and travel costs may also be reimbursed.

Swiss Confederation

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are intended for talented foreign researchers at the doctoral, post-doctoral, and research levels.

Scholarships for the 2027-2028 academic year will be announced online starting in August 2026.

Republic of Turkey

Under the Türkiye Scholarships program, the Government of the Republic of Turkey offers scholarships for 2026 for undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral studies.

Applications are accepted from January 10 to February 20, 2026 through the Türkiye Scholarships Application System (www.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr). 

The program provides admission procedures and accommodation for students wishing to pursue undergraduate, Master’s, or doctoral studies at the relevant educational institutions; it covers tuition fees, Turkish language courses, and a monthly stipend; it also reimburses health insurance and airfare expenses.

 

Japan

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan annually announces scholarships for students and researchers wishing to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.

People’s Republic of China

The Chinese government annually announces scholarship competitions for undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral studies, as well as programs for researchers and Chinese language courses.

For 2026–2027, the “Youth of Excellence Scheme of China” scholarship program has been announced by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

The program is intended for foreign nationals and provides full funding for English-taught Master’s programs in China. The standard duration of study is 12 months, while certain programs follow a “1+1” model, combining study in China with professional experience in the candidate’s home country. The scholarship fully covers tuition fees and living expenses during the study period.

Applications are submitted online through the Chinese Government Scholarship System by March 31, 2026, 23:59 (GMT+8).

Republic of Korea

The government of the Republic of Korea annually announces the Global Korea Scholarship program for undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral studies.

Asian Development Bank & Japan

Since April 1988, with funding from the Government of Japan, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has offered citizens of its developing member countries the opportunity to pursue Master’s studies at 27 selected educational institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, including 17 in Japan.

The main fields of study include Science and Technology; Economics, Business and Management; and Law and Public Policy.
