The Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, Government of Abkhazia AR organized the event dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Muhajirs.
Zviad Zviadadze, the Head of Department of the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality addressed the audience at the event. He noted that the problem, which was centuries ago, is still relevant today.
“It is important to send the clear message to our Abkhazian brothers and sisters and to the whole world about the Russian occupation and Russian imperialism, the intentions Russia had 140 years ago and still continues today resulting in Muhajirium, which shall be confronted by the civilized world.
The state is taking very intensive steps for peacekeeping policy and in order to maintain the Abkhaz language, culture, customs and traditions. By our initiative, the Abkhazian language classes for Muhajirs were opened in the 14th public school of Batumi and the village of Fiery. Other steps are also being taken. The Government's new peace initiative "A Step for a Better Future" will be the main guarantor not only for the improvement of social situation on the occupied territories but also for maintaining their customs and culture", - said Zviad Zviadadze.
Thematic photos related to Muhajiroba were exhibited at the exhibition hall of the parliament and "Abkhazian descendant of Muhajirs in Adjara" film was shown at the cinema hall and information booklets were distributed to guests.
