KETEVAN TSIKHELASHVILI: “ALL POSSIBLE CHANNELS ARE ACTIVATED FOR LIBERATION OF THE WOMAN. WE ARE WORKING IN 24-HOUR REGME”

2 October 2018
„Particularly worrying, alarming and disgraceful”, - this is how the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia Ketevan Tsikhelashvili assesses the fact of kidnapping Maia Otinashvili, aged 36, from the village Bobnevi and sentencing her to 2-month pre-trail detention and states that activities are performed for her liberation in 24-hour regime.

“This fact is the expression of not only non-legal, but inhuman treatment, as it concerns the mother of three minor children, who was arrested in her own household plot. The Office employees visited the site yesterday, met the family and saw the place, where unlawful detention occurred - - in few meters from the residential house. This person lives and works there permanently. This is an extremely grave provocation and absolutely unacceptable action. We can’t speak about any kind of accusation, as it has no legitimation and justification.

“We are working in 24-hour regime. Presently absolutely all possible channels are activated for liberation of the woman. In spite of the spread information, communication through the hotline is ongoing, as well as the relation with the leadership of EU monitoring Mission and Chairpersons of Geneva Discussions. We also use other channels, through which the goal can be achieved.

“The condition of this lady is very important for us. International Red Cross Committee has been informed and involved since yesterday. It is the only humanitarian organization, having access to Tskhinvali region. Evidently, all measures, related to provision of information about the condition of health of the arrested woman to the family, will be implemented by them. This communication will go on during the day”, - the State Minister stated.
