The contest "I write in Georgian" for pupils of non-Georgian speaking schools started

Under the initiative of the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, competition for the 9th grade pupils of non-Georgian speaking schools and sectors of Georgia “I write in Georgian” started.

The aim of the contest is to promote the state language, develop and encourage written competences in the state language for pupils of ethnic minorities.

Lia Gigauri, the Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, announced the beginning of the competition at the 98th public school. At the meeting, which was attended by senior pupils of the 98th, 104th and 73th schools, the competition terms and procedures were discussed. The debate on “Civil integration and intercultural dialogue” was held between students.

Competition will be held in three stages. At the first stage each non-Georgian language school should select and submit to the relevant resource center one candidate of IX grade. The school is free to determine the criteria of selection. At the second stage, the pupils from the schools will write the dictation of medium complexity - 120/130 words - in each resource center. As a result, two winners will be identified by each resource center. At the third stage pupils will be given the dictation of the medium difficulty in a limited time, the winners of which will write a difficult text of 150 words. The texts will be prepared by a modern writer.

Finally, the commission created by the Tbilisi State University will present 3 winners on April 14 at the event dedicated to Georgian Language Day. The winners will be awarded with certificates and gifts.

Competition is a result of collaboration with Tbilisi State University and is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
