Within the framework of the "Give a Book" campaign the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili together with her deputy Lia Gigauri visited the village Tirdznisi’s Public School, which was affected by conflict and handed out books to children and school library.
This school was damaged during the 2008 Russian-Georgian war. The Russian soldiers set fire to it. The locals rescued the building from the complete destruction. In recognition of her gratitude, the State Minister handed over the books to the two women who fought for the loss of their lives to save school and fire.
"I want to congratulate everyone from here, from the school of Tirdznisi. The school, which was damaged in 2008 and has been restored. This is part of the campaign in which we are giving books to each other. Today we have delivered books to the library and we want to remind you how important it is to read the book, get education. Education is truly the right investment in success, peace and development.
"The fact that in this school that is so close to the barbed wire fences, we have such good teachers and they give a full-fledged education to these pupils, is the right answer to the ruthless occupation policy that today divides about 100 villages in Georgia. Very principally, with the development, with the help to these people, we will definitely destroy these fences in the future. The most correct tool for this is education and development of our country. I once again congratulate everyone on the International day of the book. Let's read books, get education and we will be the most powerful and successful", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
Shida Kartli Governor Giorgi Khojevanishvili also participated in the event.
