The population of villages near the dividing line affected by hail will receive assistance. The memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, USAID's project "Zrda" (“Growth”) and the Shida Kartli Regional Governor's Office, which was attended by the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

One million dollars was allocated to ensure the livelihood of the families affected by the hail of the end of May, through which the Georgian and American sides created a quick reaction project. According to the data available at this stage, the number of affected people exceeded 7 thousand. The damaged area of perennial and ancestral cultures is 10 000 hectares.

Ketevan Tsikhelashvili thanked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). She said that the memorandum proves once again that the population, who lives face to face with the dividing lines, is a special priority for the State.

"Of course, it is very important for us to give people the opportunity of economic activity and the restoration of their farm. These funds will be directed towards eradicating losses. They also help them to have their activities on the land and to develop these regions.

"This is not the only thing that the Georgian government is carrying out with the United States. There is a very complex program "Growth" in the framework of which various economic initiatives are encouraged and I think that our activities in the future will only be expanded. I am very glad that our partners are with us when we have such natural cataclysms and artificial cataclysms - connected to the barbed wire fences", - said the State Minister.
