With the organization of the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, the presentations of the assessment of state agencies internship program for “1 + 4 system graduates” and the information campaign "Promotion of Higher and Vocational Education among Ethnic Minorities" was held. The event was opened by the State minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
During the presentation findings that were revealed during the research process were discussed. The achievements and challenges of the program were noted and the ways of overcoming them were identified.
"We have discussed the results of the survey, which aimed to gain access to higher and vocational education to ethnic minorities and the "1 + 4 program". As you know, this is a special program, where our fellow citizens of different ethnic origins have an opportunity to enter the highest educational institutions in one exam. They study Georgian language during one year and then go to the bachelor's level of study in the desired direction. This program is already very successful, since the number of students from 2010 has increased seven times, and the entrants are even more.
"One of the conclusions is that our citizens want to receive education here, in their homeland, they want to work and live here, which is very natural. It is very important for the State not to let our resources flow out in other countries. Therefore, our task is to continue and improve this program. We will use the results of the research that will probably identify both positive sides and existing challenges. We must be self-critical, first of all. Let's see what works and what's not to be effective at the next stage of implementation of our policy”, - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
Later, the State Minister, together with the Deputy Minister Lia Gigauri, awarded young people participating in the campaign "Promoting Access to Higher and Vocational Education among Ethnic Minorities" with certificates and symbolic gifts.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Irine Abuladze, Director of Civil Service Bureau Eka Kardava and the Head of Social Development Department Tamar Sirbiladze also welcomed the participants.
Projects supporters and organizers of the event are also the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations Association of Georgia (UNAG) "Tolerance, Civic Consciousness and Integration Support Program (PITA).
