State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with the US Representative in the Geneva International Discussions Andrew Schofer.

At the meeting, attended by the Acting US Ambassador Elizabeth Rudd, the main topic of discussion was the detention of Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili and the necessity of his immediate release.

Much time was dedicated to the so-called Akhalgori direction and problems caused by the checkpoint closure. The State Minister spoke in detail about the humanitarian crisis in Akhalgori and Tskhinvali region in general. Human rights violations were also reviewed.

The meeting also touched upon the next round of the Geneva International Discussions, which will be held on December 10-11. Special attention was paid to the humanitarian issues discussed in the second working group. The need to differentiate between the humanitarian and political themes was emphasized.

At the end of the meeting the sides discussed the progress of the peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future". The State Minister briefed the guest on the implemented work and planned steps.
