2 June 2020

The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, visited the socially vulnerable large families in the villages of Khurcha and Orsantia along the dividing line. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili congratulated the families on June 1, International Children’s Day, and handed out baskets of food and hygiene items.

State Minister was accompanied by Nino Vibliani, the Deputy State Representative of Samegrelo, and Giorgi Shengelia, the Mayor of Zugdidi.

In total, food and hygiene baskets in Samegrelo region will be given to 272 large families living near the occupation line of Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha and Mestia municipalities. The project is funded by the French Embassy and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

“We are continuing the campaign in the villages near the dividing lines, within the framework of which we are helping socially vulnerable and large families. Today we visited several large families in Khurcha and Orsantia. I would like to congratulate these kids, as well as each child in Georgia, on International Children’s Day. The main thing we should wish for our children is, of course, health and peace, which will surely come in these villages, when the ugly obstacles, barbed wire and fences, will disappear peacefully.

As part of this campaign, we have now assisted 272 families in 3 municipalities - Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha and Mestia. I would like to thank the United Nations Children’s Fund and the French Embassy for their help in organizing this assistance. These are humanitarian packages of products and hygiene products that will supply these families for a certain period of time, but it is more important to express our support and we will continue to do this in the future.

As you know there is a special commission that works on the needs of the population living near the dividing line and children, large families are certainly one of the main priorities for us”, - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
