Tea Akhvlediani, the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality met with Viorel Moshanu, the Special Representative of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe Chairman-in-Office for the South Caucasus.
She emphasized the importance of the OSCE’s role and active involvement in the peaceful resolution of the conflict, stressed the significance of the Geneva International Discussions (GID) in this process.
The meeting also covered the upshots of the 110th Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRMs) meeting, which took place on 17 January in the village of Ergneti.
The State Minister reviewed the difficult situation in the occupied regions of Georgia in terms of security, humanitarian and human rights. Particular attention was paid to the facts of illegal detention of Georgian citizens and the need to continue the efforts of international partners, including the OSCE, to ensure the unconditional and immediate release of persons detained in the Tskhinvali region. The parties spoke about the importance of the Geneva International Discussions and noted the need to make progress on the topics covered by the agenda, including the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees and other humanitarian issues.
Tea Akhvlediani informed the foreign diplomat about the progress and future visions of the implementation of the policy of reconciliation and engagement, which aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of the population affected by the conflict and to deepen the dialogue based on common interests and the restoration of trust between the artificially divided society.
OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the South Caucasus praised the Georgian government’s efforts and promised full support in the peace process.
