The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality paid a tribute to the victims who died during the fall of Sokhumi, commemorating the memorial with flower bouquet.
"I would like to pay a respect for the memory of the soldiers who died during the fall of Sokhumi and armed hostilities in Abkhazia. I was there and saw how the youngsters sacrificed their lives with my own eyes. This is the day of great tragedy. We commemorate our heroes and express condolences for the families of the dead once again. The Government of Georgia will never forget this day. As long as we remember the day of great sorrow, we shall have determination and commitment to return to Sokhumi, where both Abkhazians and Georgians shall enjoy dignified lives together. Today also we celebrate the Elevation of the Holy Cross and the feast gives us hope that everything will end in a way which serves for the interests of Abkhazian and Georgian people,"- Mr. Paata Zakareishvili declared.
The State Minister also visited the photo-exhibition Roads and Bridges for Our Unity, staged at the National Library of the Parliament, under the arrangement of the Ministry for Regional Development and Infrastructure and the National Archives. 50 photos represented the roads and bridges jointly constructed by Georgian and Abkhazian specialists in 19th and 20th centuries.
"These photos demonstrate the capacity of the works accomplished by Georgians and Abkhazians. This is more explicitly revealed today - in times when the rest of Georgia has bridges, roads and cities built along its path to Europe, Abkhazia is destructed and there are practically no substantial constructions there. Exhibition is a wonderful example of how much we can achieve with our joint efforts," - Mr. Paata Zakareishvili declared.
