The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality met with Boriss Cilevics and Kerstin Lundgren, co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of Georgia by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Mr. Paata Zakareishvili provided information on current situation in occupied territories, focusing on additional restrictions that are imposed on Georgian-language instruction in Georgian schools of Gali district. Members of the delegation expressed interest towards reconciliation processes. The State Minister spoke about the relations with Abkhazian and Ossetian sides, noting that bilateral relation with Abkhazian side is already restored. “This year, we had couple of bilateral meetings with Abkhazian side. As far as South Ossetia is concerned, even though there are no such formats, the local population regularly visits the rest of the territory of Georgia and receives benefits that are offered by the state. It is quite obvious, that today Abkhazian and Ossetian societies have more trust for the Georgian state,” – Mr. Paata Zakareishvili declared. The topics discussed at the meeting also included the development of Geneva International Discussions and integration process of ethnic minorities.
