The First Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili commemorated the memorial of heroes who died in 2008 in village Shindisi of Gori Municipality.
“I extend my congratulations on Holy Easter to everyone. This is truly remarkable Christian celebration – the victory of life over death, which is a reason we come here. We want to honor the heroes whose memory is internal. This is a historic place we face today. Through this visit I want to remind everyone that we have heroes who gave an excellent example of love for their country, unity and solidarity through sacrificing their lives and fighting for their homeland in disproportionate battle until the last days of their life. Simultaneously we should do everything to avoid the death of our compatriots. We need to restore our territorial integrity and sovereignty through courage and bravery, but exclusively through peaceful means; we should support the return of those who are separated by occupation line and barbed wires.
Hereby, I would like to extend my special congratulations to IDPs and persons who live in the vicinity of occupation line and who are unable to visit the churches and cemeteries of their relatives even during the Easter days, due to barbed wires and other horrible barriers. We shall do everything in future to defend the rights of these people in parallel with de-occupation and peaceful settlement of the conflict,” – Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.
Today also, the Head of Gori Municipality Mr. Davit Oniashvili commemorated the memorial of heroes in Shindisi along with the First Deputy State Minister.
The Orthodox Church of Georgia marks the second day after Easter through blessing the cemeteries of beloved ones.
