Under the invitation of Chatham House London, the First Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili took part into the meeting of the 3rd annual “London Conference 2016.”
The conference runs since 2014 annually, with the participation of around 200 high-profile politicians from different countries, representatives of civil society and academic circles. The topic of 2016 conference was “Re-Defining Borders: Challenges to Security, Growth and Resilience.”
In frames of her visit, the First Deputy State Minister met with Mr. Michael Tatham, the Head of the Eastern Europe & Central Asia Directorate, who simultaneously chairs the 2nd working group of the “Wardrop Dialogue” by the side of the United Kingdom.
Addressing Mr. Tatham, Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili introduced the challenges in terms of human rights protection in the occupied territories. Mrs. Tsikhelashvili put an emphasis on the murder of Giga Otkhozoria in village Khurcha on 19 May, also highlighting restrictions that are imposed on the freedom of movement and the education into native language for ethnic-Georgians in Gali district.
The conversation also dealt with the development of 36th round of Geneva International Dialogue (that was held in this week) and Georgia’s engagement policy. Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili extended her thanks to the UK representative for firm support, cooperation and contribution to confidence building projects, as an important prerequisite for peaceful resolution of the conflict.
