The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili has met with Mr. Knut Fleckenstein, Vice-Chair, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.
Addressing the MEP, the State Minister gave an overview of the situation in the occupied regions of Georgia, with an emphasis on human rights violations, problems that emerged for the locals due to the installation of barbed fires and the restrictions that are imposed on the freedom of movement and education into native language.
According to Mrs. Tsikhelashvili, the Government of Georgia considers exclusively peaceful solution to conflicts through encouraging people-to-people contacts, confidence building and reconciliation.
The State Minister also highlighted the importance of the EU, its role and support to peaceful settlement of the conflicts, fulfillment of peace-building goals and CBMs (confidence building measures).
“The model of European statehood, democratic development and economic welfare are one of the keys to peaceful settlement of the conflicts. In that regard, it is important to have a support of the EU in frames of different formats of our cooperation,” – Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.
