The meeting was attended by ethnic Abkhazians living in Batumi, IDPs from Abkhazia and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social groups.
State Minister familiarized them with the vision of the new Georgian government on peaceful resolution of conflicts and discussed prospects of future development of Georgian-Abkhazian relations.
"Reflections of ethnic Abkhazians residing in Batumi on conflict settlement is interesting and important for me", - said Paata Zakareishvili.
One of the participants of the meeting, Ada Kutelia talked about teaching of Abkhaz language.
"We opened Sunday classes in Batumi, where people of different ages are able to learn Abkhaz language. I was in Abkhazia and visited Foundation for Abkhaz Language Development there. I informed them that I teach Abkhaz language in Batumi. After that, I was given dozens of Abkhazian books and brochures, which I gave to our pupils as a gift", - said Ada Kutelia.
State Minister noted, that Abkhaz language is a state language on the territory of Abkhazia and he thinks that it must acquire the status of an official language on the rest territory of Georgia as well, in order ethnic Abkhazians to have an opportunity to receive information and services in their native language.
IDPs asked the State Minister for help in solving housing problems. State Minister responded that in three years social problems of all refugees and internally displaced persons, including the housing problem, must be solved. He added that return of refugees is a political issue and it requires relatively more time.
