The Museum is located in the village Duisi of the Pankisi Gorge. It was founded in 2010 as an initiative of the Akhmeta municipality Cultural Center and with the facilitation of Vice-Prime Minister/State Minister of Georgia and the Presidential Representative in the Kakheti Region. The Ethnographic Museum of the Pankisi Gorge aims to present the culture, identity and unique lifestyle of different ethnic groups such as Tushs, Kists, Pshavs and Ossetians living in the Pankisi Gorge and helps preserve and develop their historical heritage. The museum also aims to promote familiarization with the general Caucasian culture, to attract tourists to the gorge and to help develop agro-tourism in the region, as well as to assist in the mutual integration of various ethnic groups resident in the Pankisi Gorge and their integration with the rest of the Georgian society.
The Office of the State Minister for Reintegration granted a computer, a printer and office stationery to the Museum.
