Peter Kankava: Sport is one of the best ways for peaceful coexistence

The First Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mr. Petre Kankava attended the football match between Tskhinvali’s "Samachablo" and Marneuli’s "Algeti" in Tskhinvali. The first game of the second league of Georgian National Championship was held at the stadium of Ergneti. The match ended with a victory of "Samachablo" (5:1).

"This match is symbolic, because we are near the dividing line. We are all winners in this game. We want to tell the Ossetian community, that peace and reconciliation has not got any alternative and sport is one of the best ways for peaceful coexistence. We are sure, that Georgians, Ossetians, Abkhazians and other ethnic groups of sportsmen will play together in “Samachablo”, as well as in Azerbaijan, Armenians, Georgians and Greeks play together in "Algeti". In the 21st century there is no place for wires and artificial wrestlers", - said Kankava.

During this match Mikheil Kavelashvili, Chairman of the parliamentary committee for sport and youth affairs, was named as "Samachablo"’s president. He thanked the team for trust and promised to support them. President of Georgian Football Federation Levan Kobiashvili, Head of the provisional administration of the former Autonomous District of South Ossetia Dimitri Sanakoev, Deputy Governor of Shida Kartli and local government representatives attended this match.
