On February, 23, the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, Minister of Defence of Georgia Levan Izoria and Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia Sozar Subari laid wreaths at the memorial of the Junkers who died in the struggle against the Red Army.
The State Minister talked about February 1925 developments and today’s challenges of Georgia. She emphasized the commitment of the Junkers in the struggle for their homeland’s independence.
"In 1921 Georgia had a hard time. The Junkers showed a truly remarkable example of devotion and self-sacrifice against the Soviet occupation army. They fought and died in the fight for the independence of Georgia. Their memory is eternal for us.
"It is a pity that today, in the 21st century, Georgia has a similar challenge - its territories are still occupied. There are a lot of artificial obstacles that make to people lots of difficulties, day-to-day problems etc.
“We continue to struggle for independence. This fight is peaceful and the process is irreversible. We want to build bridges along the artificial barricades. I am sure that the efforts, which has a great international support, will bring results”, - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
