Today is 40 days after Archil Tatunashvili's death. This date coincided with his birthday - he would be 35 years old today. Members of the government together with his family were on the Mukhatgverdi Brothers cemetery.
According to the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, the aim of the State is to avoid such cases and to use international mechanisms for the protection of human rights in the occupied territories.
"40 days have passed since that great tragedy that lost the life of Archil Tatunashvili. Also today his 35th birthday and his family meets this date with such a tragedy and pain. I want to tell you that the investigation is in progress. Our interest, as the interest of our partners and the whole society, is the objective investigation in order to know exact circumstances of this tragedy and to identify the responsible persons.
"The second and very important task. The State should do everything in order to prevent the similar tragedies. Protect people's lives, safety and fundamental rights.
"As you know, there are many directions here - political, diplomatic and legal. Archil Tatunashvili's issue was the main topic during the last round of the Geneva International Discussions. The Georgian authorities and our partners have once again clarified what the hard work we are dealing with, how
unacceptable it today’s situation. One of the issues was the necessity of international mechanism in order to protect human rights before the conflict resolution", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
