The winners of the competition "My First Georgian Role" were awarded at Rustaveli Theater

In order to promote the State language the competition of the Georgian-language performances "My First Georgian Role" was held for the pupils of non-Georgian general educational institutions / sectors.

The aim of the competition was to promote Georgian language for pupils of ethnic minorities, develop competencies in State language and identify creative skills.

Three prizes (I, II, III) and jury sympathy were revealed by the Competition Works (Performances) Assessment Commission. The owner of the first place became the public school of the village Duzagrami, Sagarejo municipality. The second place received by Tbilisi Public School # 96 and the third place - Akhaltsikhe Public School #3. The “sympathy of the jury” became Mughanlo Public School of Gardabani municipality.

Today Rustaveli Theater hosted the winners of the competition. The pupils presented fragments from their performances. At the end of the meeting the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, the Minister of Education and Science Mikhail Chkhenkeli, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Lia Gigauri and Mariam Jashi, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Culture, awarded the winners.

The State Minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili congratulated the audience and talked about the importance of State language knowledge.

"These children made really impressive performances. I think this is the best way to emphasize how important is to know, Georgian, State language in order to achieve success in all areas. Children are very well aware of this. This is one of the main pillars of our Statehood and Freedom. Our ancestors – with different ethnic origins and religion - fought to save the Georgian language and to develop it.

"Of course, it is our duty to take care of our unique riches, create to every citizen of Georgia the possibilities and opportunities to study state language fully. Naturally, along with native language, in parallel with maintaining own identity, because this is the key to success in our common homeland - in Georgia", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, together with the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
