The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili delivered a speech on the event dedicated to the famous writer and public figure Gigi Khornauli. The event was held in the village of Duisi in the Pankisi Gorge by the organization of the Office of the State Minister.
Meka Khangoshvili, the representative of the State Minister's Office, presented the books to Gigi Khornauli. They include stories about Kist people. The writer always had close relationships with Kists, which reflected in his works - in his stories we see distinctive brotherhood and friendship of the Kist and the Georgian people.
State Minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, first of all thanked the writer and the audience and said that this event is extremely important. She emphasized the role of Gigi Khornauli's in deepening the friendship between Georgians and Kists and noted that the unique qualities of the Kists people - support, brotherhood, unity and mutual respect have influenced Khornauli’s work.
"I always have a special feeling when I come to Pankisi, because the relations here always are special. I always feel this. I want to express my love and respect, but I cannot do it in such way as this great man has done it with his creativity.
"Mr. Gigi is very respected in the Gorge and it is very important for us to reaffirm his special attitude towards the Kist people. We want to emphasize the importance of the relations between Georgians and Kists, which is centuries old and is based on mutual respect, dignity, cultural proximity and traditions", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
At the end of the event the State Minister and other participants handed the writer gifts. During the event Kakheti regional governor Irakli Kadagishvili, the Council of Elders member Khaso Khangoshvili, folklorist Eteri Tataraidze and Gigi Khornauli himself delivered the speeches. Khornauli thanked the organizers and said that his is proud that this event was held in the House of Culture of Duisi.
Among the guests there were Kist elders, members of the Council of Women, public figures, writers, poets, critics and local residents.
