"I would like to express my gratitude to the President of European Council Donald Tusk for his support to the peace policy of the Government of Georgia and to the new peace initiative “A Step to a Better Future”. Such statement the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili made in response of the supporting statement of Donald Tusk to the initiative “A Step to a Better Future”.
"This initiative has an unprecedented and unanimous support from our partners, which is very important for its successful implementation in existing occupation and the current challenges" - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
Supporting statements about the peace initiative “A Step to a Better Future” was made by the President of the European Council after the meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze.
“We welcome the initiative "A Step to a Better Future", which provides people living in Abkhazia and South Ossetia with new trade and education opportunities. We stand ready to provide further assistance to support its implementation”, - said Donald Tusk during the press-conference.
Besides, "A Step to a Better Future" was one of the main themes during the meeting of the Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and the European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn.
During the meeting in the European Commission participants focused on the current situation in the occupied territories and positively talked about the policy of Georgian government – towards the conflicts peaceful resolution, as well as to the new peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future". Johannes Hahn reaffirmed the support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia in its internationally recognized borders.
Peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future" was supported in the NATO communique, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament resolutions.
Lots of countries called this initiative as a positive dynamic step in the peace process, which has the potential of support conflict-affected population, improve their life, promote confidence-building and dialogue across the dividing lines, promote the peace process in order to achieve conflicts peaceful resolution.
On April, 4 the Government of Georgia approved the new peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future", presented by the Office of the State Minister. On June, 6 the Parliament of Georgia voted for the package of amendments.
