The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili together with the Minister of Defense Levan Izoria paid tribute to the memory of Georgian soldiers killed in Shindisi 10 years ago and decorated the memorial of the heroes with flowers.
The State Minister expressed her condolences to the members of the families of the killed heroes and thanked them for their exemplary children.
"Today we are in a place of special heroism to honor of those soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for homeland. They are like heroes, about whom we can read only in the history books.
"We should always say the same thing in this place – we will achieve the goals because of which these guys sacrificed their lives: freedom and unity of our country. We will be able to achieve peace and will not lose the lives of our soldiers. "Today we have seen here that the construction of the memorial already started. And it is very symbolic. But without any exaggeration we should say that they have the biggest memorial in our memory and in our hearts", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
17th-figure portrait monument will be created in Shindisi for the memory of 17 servicemen of the II Infantry Brigade of the GAF, died in the area near Shindisi Railway Staton, on August 11, 2008. According to the sculpture Nugzar Chavchavadze noted, the construction of the monument will be completed next year. For these goals the Administration of the Government of Georgia has allocated GEL 530 000 the Ministry of Defense – GEL 400,000 for the construction of the memorial.
The Shindisi Battle took place on August 11, 2008. 17 soldiers of II Infantry Brigade were killed in the unequal battle with the Russian soldiers.
