10 years after the war people are especially concerned about the humanitarian and security challenges in the occupied by Russia Tskhinvali region / South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili made this statement at the NATO Commission meeting. The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality brought specific examples to the commission members and the Secretary General, including the brutal murder of Georgian citizens, the separation of people by the fences and the attempts to slow down the European integration of Georgia with the propaganda methods.
Ketevan Tsikhelashvili opened the session of the Commission dedicated to the conflict resolution issues with the NATO Secretary General. She once again provided the NATO member states representatives detailed information about tens of thousands of Georgian citizens who are persecuted on an ethnic basis, do not have an opportunity to receive an education on their native language in schools and pre-school educational institutions.
In her speech the State Minister also paid particular attention to the Government's new peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future" and introduced members of the Commission all the steps that the State intends for the welfare of the conflict affected citizens. Among them are economic projects, which will contribute to the confidence building between people who are separated with barbed wires.
The Government's peace initiative has a unanimous support in Brussels, which was confirmed during the NATO-Georgia Commission session. The Alliance once again expressed its support to the Georgia's territorial integrity.
