The second day of Pankisi's teachers visit to Brussels

5 February 2019
Pankisi school teachers and principals visit to Brussels continuous. The second day of the visit was very busy. First of all, they visited NATO headquarters, where they were hosted by the South Caucasus and Central Asia Regional Coordinator of the Public Diplomacy Department, Despina Appenthoul and the Head of the Mission of Georgia, Ambassador Alexander Maisuradze.

The guests received information about the Georgia-NATO relations history, prospects and challenges on Georgia's accession to NATO. Teachers have an opportunity to ask all the questions that are interesting to them and get a comprehensive answer to each of them.

"I want to say that such meetings have particular importance, because it is necessary for every citizen of our country to have correct information about Georgia's membership in NATO. Teachers and school principals from the Pankisi Gorge had an opportunity to get full and comprehensive information not only about the Alliance, but also Georgia – NATOs relations, membership process, challenges facing our country and the North Atlantic Alliance. I am very happy, because I received a very important experience with this meeting", - said Alexander Maisuradze, Georgia's Representative to NATO.

Later, Pankisi teachers met with the Directorate General for Negotiations on Eastern European Neighborhood Policy and Expansion Commission Matthew Buske. The main topic of the meeting was the EU expansion strategy and neighborhood policy. They talked about ongoing projects in Georgia and their importance. The next meeting was held with the representative of the European Council President Donald Tusk, the Advisor Magdalena Grono.

"At the meetings it was very important to discuss the issues that are interesting for teachers, which are connected to Georgia's perspectives. Of course it was necessary for them, because they want to give the Pankisi youth the right information about the possibilities of EU assistance projects", - said Lia Gigauri, Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality.

The project is implemented by the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the Information Center on NATO and the European Union in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The financial support of the project is provided by the EU Delegation to Georgia.
