"So called checkpoints and wires are a daily battle launched by the occupation regime against people"

"The occupation regime is allegedly installing a surveillance tower near Khurvaleti village in order to strengthen the pressure and observe, how many Ossetian people are trying to cross the occupation line and enter the controlled by the Government of Georgia territory". Such statement Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, made in connection with the events in the village of Khurvaleti. She added that the actions of the occupation regime are directed against the interests of ordinary citizens.

"This policy – the construction of such artificial barricades along the lines of occupation – continues for years. On the question whether there is any military objective, I will answer you – of course, no. The construction of all these - so called checkpoints, barbed wires etc. – is a daily battle announced by the occupational regime against people. As you know, movement  in Tskhinvali direction is still limited on the only so-called crossing point, connecting Odzisi and Akhalgori and which is vitally important not only for Georgians living in Akhalgori, but also for Ossetians. Right now the occupation regime is allegedly installing a surveillance tower near Khurvaleti village in order to strengthen the pressure and observe, how many Ossetian people are trying to cross the occupation line and enter the controlled by the Government of Georgia territory. According to "Sputnik", more than 40 person have been arrested current year and 90% of them were trying to reach the territory, controlled by the Government, for vital needs. It is impossible to imagine more cynicism than this.

"As for the response, our respective structures had a meeting with the EU Monitoring Mission yesterday, which, unfortunately, patrols only our territory because we do not have access to the occupied territories due to Russian positions. Of course, co-chairs - including the EU Special Representative who is now in Georgia – are informed. We had meetings and we will held them in future too. Tomorrow, the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism is scheduled in Ergneti and the latest episodes of construction of artificial barricades will also be discussed", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
