Difficult situation on the occupied territories, challenges of the population living on the both sides of dividing lines, the human rights violation facts and the peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future". These topics were discussed during the meeting of the State Minister of Georgia Ketevan Tsikhelashvili and the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák.
According to Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, the visit of the Minister to Georgia during his presidency is his message that the OSCE is interested in carrying out more active role in the resolution of the conflict.
"As you know, the OSCE has a special role. The organization is a co-chair of the Geneva process, engaged in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings in direction of Tskhinvali region where we have serious challenges. Obviously, I talked with him about the ongoing challenges where a very critical and active response is needed.
"We talked about the existing situation. The OSCE is an organization, which member is Russia. Consequently, there are leverages in order to make pressure and try to avoid, prevent challenges for population such as barriers, limiting the movement, human rights violations, etc. Especially when we talk about ethnic Georgians who live on the occupied territories - because of their ethnicity, they are the victims of the discriminatory politics. I have heard from the Minister that the OSCE will become more active during the Slovak Presidency", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
She added that the meeting also touched upon Georgia's peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future," wherein each partner's involvement is important.
"We talked about the different aspects of this project. It is aimed to improve the lives of people through the joint effort and increase confidence among those who are separated by the barbed wires today", - the State Minister said.
