On the last day of her visit to Washington, the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality discussed the occupation of Georgian territories, the Government's peace policy and regional security during the public talk in the Carnegie Center.
During the public speech Ketevan Tsikhelashvili responded to the question about the comment of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin and said that the threatening tone is often heard from the northern neighbor.
"I'm not surprised. Such statements are frequent from Russia. At this meeting Russia once again tried to warn Georgia against its Euro-Atlantic integration. They openly say that this is a threat to Russia. They threaten us, but in the end we know that this is not just about Euro-Atlantic integration. The whole fight is going on for Georgia and the Caucasus to become the satellite of Russia, which is unacceptable for us and our purposes. The Government made this choice together with the population. Georgia's European choice and Euro-Atlantic integration is not a choice against any country. The only thing we want is security, which is necessary for the survival and development of the country", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
Later the State Minister had a working dinner with one of the most influential experts in the US and the region. Among them was Svante Cornell, Head researcher of the American Foreign Policy Center.
Experts have received an exhaustive information on the difficulties and challenges of people living along the dividing lines. Discussions also focused on the Georgian government's peace initiative towards which the experts expressed great support and were interested in what kind of contribution could be exercised.
The several days visit of the State Minister's to the United States has completed.
