The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili together with Mayor of Kutaisi Giorgi Chighvaria opened the memorial board of well-known and successful graduates of St. Nino school.
At the base of the Kutaisi third school there was originally a Saint Nino Gymnasium, which has many well-known names among its alumni. For example, the first women – member of the Parliament, the founders of feminist history, poet Ana Kalandadze, actress Veriko Anjaparidze and so on.
Before the opening of the memorial board, the march was held from Kutaisi Opera Theater to the 3rd school. Five speaker women talked about famous women who studied at the gymnasium.
"I wish all women to be strong and successful, because this means the success and strengthening of our country. Today I am in my hometown, in my school that has a 170-year history as a woman's gymnasium. During these years this school have made a unique contribution to the development of our country. Today the memorial board of the famous graduates who played a truly outstanding role has been opened.
"100 years ago, in 1918, two of the five women in the Georgian Parliament were the two graduates of the Gymnasium. This was happening when women in many European countries still fought for the right to vote. They were at the beginning of a democratic tradition that we continue and are proud of today. Personally, I am very proud that this school has always played a significant role and I am sure that it will continue in the future", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
The mayor of Kutaisi also addressed the gathered community. At the end of the event he awarded successful pupils of the 3rd school.
