Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with the US ambassador

The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality held a meeting with US Ambassador to Georgia Ross Wilson. The main topic of the meeting was the death of Irakli Kvaratskhelia.

Ketevan Tsikhelashvili called the meeting very important and said that the United States is a strategic partner of Georgia.

"We discussed the current situation. Of course, we talked about the serious, tragic incident that is related to the death of Irakli Kvaratskhelia - yet, according to the information provided, it was suicide, but now the expertise is conducted and we will probably have more information.

"We also talked about the continuation of cooperation with the United States in the future and the peace initiative “A Step to a Better Future”. We talked about projects that is supported by the United States of America and what they will do in the future.

"I once again heard from the Ambassador that United States support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. They also support the peace process and agree that it has no alternative. Obviously what is being done by Russia is totally unacceptable. This is reflected in the report of the State Department", - said the State Minister.

On the other hand, the meeting was positively assessed by the acting Ambassador of the United States. He said that he had received information about all issues.

"We have talked about different initiatives that are a part of "A Step to a Better Future" and deals with trade, healthcare, education and other areas. This is all the areas in which the US is providing strong support for Georgia and our partners here.

"We particularly strongly support what the State Minister is doing in order to improve the situation of each citizen in the whole country, including in Abkhazia and South Ossetia", - said Ross Wilson.

He termed the death of Irakli Kvaratskhelia in the not-so-unknown circumstances and said that it was a gross violation of human rights.

"This fact will be reflected in the next report of human rights. It will once again demonstrate how important is the work of this ministry", - added Ross Wilson.
