The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with UNICEF Regional Director in European and Central Asian Countries Afshan Khan.
The main topic of the meeting was the situation on the occupied territories. Discussions focused on the challenges faced by the population in humanitarian terms, the violations of human rights and the restriction of access to education on native language.
"We had a very important meeting. UN and its institutions are our important partners, which are implementing projects in the region of Abkhazia. This time we discussed children's rights. When we are talking about human rights and humanitarian situation, this is a special priority. The case concerns the health of children, their immunization and the possibility of education.
"We also talked about the situation in Gali, the difficulties that has been created for ethnic Georgians and needs to take steps through international partners to ensure their right to education and the opportunity of education, starting from the kindergartens and ending with schools. This is a key issue", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
