At 17:10 in Akhalkalaki, as well as in the whole Georgia, the national anthem was sung.
"I congratulate all of Georgia from Akhalkalaki on Independence Day. Of course I especially want to congratulate locals of Akhalkalaki. It is the day of each of us, the celebration and the achievement of each of us, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation. Our ancestors fought for this day, achieved freedom and created an exemplary democratic state a hundred years ago. The occupation by the Soviet Union suspended our development for seven decades, but we have restored freedom and we will not give up and more - our struggle continues until 20 percent of Georgian territories are occupied. Our fight is peaceful-with development, education and progress. This year's motto is “Share the knowledge” and I am sure with more knowledge and the welfare of each family we will definitely overcome this challenge", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
Besik Amiranashvili, the Governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti region, also attended the event.
