The Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Lia Gigauri delivered a speech at the David Aghmashenebeli National Defense Academy at the summary event of the project "Young European Ambassadors".
The project was launched in 2017 and aimed at raising awareness about the importance of Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration to the ethnic minorities and introduction of Western values. It consists of two stages: training of participants (including young people from ethnic minorities) and holding meeting of trained peers on volunteer basis – with school administrations, teachers, students and so on. At this time, 203 trainings were conducted in 146 villages of 24 municipalities, attended by 4510 participants.
During the summarizing event trainers were awarded with the certificates. Prior to this they were acquainted with the rules of life of the academy, the awareness of the existing programs and projects in the academy, the awareness of existing educational opportunities, which will be used within the framework of the planned informational campaign.
Deputy State Minister talked about the importance of the project and noted that volunteer trainers have shown European opportunities in trade, agriculture and education to the citizens of Georgia who have problems with access to information in the Georgian language. Consequently, they have shown perspectives that our country has for development.
"During these two days that young people spent in the academy, once again, they understood that if they want it is really possible to be realized person and the country's defender, learn different professions and use their opportunities to serve the country", - said Lia Gigauri.
The audience also was welcomed by Deputy Rector of the National Defense Academy Ramaz Kvaratskhelia, USAID Mission Director Peter Weber and US Defense Attaché Colonel Jeffrey Hartman.
The project "Young European ambassadors" is implemented by the initiative of the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality in cooperation of Information center of NATO and the EU, the US Agency for International Development and the United Nations Association of tolerance, civic consciousness and integration (PITA).
