Another resolution that supports the peace initiative "A Step to a Better Future" - was adopted in the framework of the 28th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Luxembourg. The resolution “The Security and Human Rights Situation in Abkhazia, Georgia and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia.” was prepared by Georgia.
According to the resolution, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly "supports the Georgian Government's peace initiative - "A Step to a Better Future" aimed at improving humanitarian and socio-economic conditions in Abkhazia, Georgia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia.
The resolution expresses strong support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty in its internationally recognized borders. There is also a detailed description of the security situation in the occupied regions of Georgia, in terms of human rights and humanitarian grounds, which is caused by the illegal actions of Russia.
The resolution adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Committee on Political Affairs and Security also condemns the murder of the Georgian citizens, Archil Tatunashvili, Giga Otkhozoria, and Davit Basharuli. The document also covers the death of Irakli Kvaratskhelia, who committed suicide in ‘unclear circumstances’ in an interrogation room, on the territory of occupied Abkhazia.
In the Preamble of the Resolution, the Parliamentary Assembly supports the right of safe and dignified return of IDPs and refugees. The Assembly also calls upon the Russian Federation to follow the fundamental norms and principles of international law to change the illegal decision of the so-called Recognition of independence of the occupied territories of Georgia and comply with the 12 August 2008 ceasefire agreement.
