"This registration in the Russian cadastral database is as unlawful as it was in 2009, when such a record was made". This statement the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili made on the fact of Russian registry of the mountainous village of Aibga in Abkhazia.
According to Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, any action taken today on the occupied territory is illegal.
“It is not recognized by the international law, the international community and, of course, Georgia's legal space.
“As for the part of the reactions, this issue has been discussed in the Abkhazian society and media since 2006. Including in 2009 and in 2014. Abkhazians, of course, have a very critical attitude, as any Russian maneuver on the territory of Georgia - in the Abkhazian region - is completely illegal. They have a feeling that they are misrepresenting their authority and violating the interests of the local population very grossly.
“I think the steps taken by the Russian Federation are symbolic and say a lot. It reaffirms that the interests of the locals for occupation regime - whether it be Abkhaz, Georgian or anyone else - does not matter when it wants to pursue its own military or political interests. So, I think, in this and many other issues, we need to think once again, to find touch points, because the danger, the challenges are common and there is no alternative to conversation, dialogue and the peace process", - said the State Minister.
