"The message, sent by the U.S. Department of State, contains direct calls to Russia to withdrawn the so-called borderisation in the Georgian villages”. In such way the State Minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili commented on the statement of the U.S. Department of State.
According to her, it should be emphasized that Georgian government uses all the existing mechanisms and among these mechanisms, diplomatic efforts on the international arena are extremely important.
“We see very clear feedback from international partners. Taken together, of course, this is very important especially now, when Russia continues illegal occupation by the construction of ugly barricades in Gugutiantkari. Thus Russia demonstrates that the opinion of the international community is not import, which is not a new. However, for us, diplomatic efforts and very active steps in the long and medium term are very important in order to halt not only this episode, but the occupation process in general.
"The message, made by the U.S. Department of State, is very clear and contains direct calls that Russia should stop the so-called borderisation in Georgian villages – this time in Gugutiantkari and, also, fulfill other obligations it has assumed under its 2008 ceasefire agreement.
“Unfortunately, we have been living under open occupation for years and we have to deal with different types of provocation every day. It seems like August is such a month for Russia that they think that international attention is relaxed. However, we have seen that they are not right. We also see that there are illegal arrests, restrictions on movement, closure of so-called checkpoints etc. Russia will launch all the existing instruments. It's all against common security, but it hits people first, on the both sides of the dividing line. So it is important for us now to fully understand for what these steps serve. With the wires or fences Russia is trying to create tension and a sense of despair in society. And here, exactly in this place, we should respond with stamina, help and support of those people who take the first blow”, - said the State Minister.
