"I'm sure the wires in Georgia will inevitably fall apart, just as the Berlin walls did"

State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili hosted an official reception dedicated to the International Day of Peace.

The event was also dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which will be celebrated on October 3. The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hubert Knirsch addressed the audience at the reception, along with the State Minister. According to Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, International Day of Peace is an important date for Georgia, as maintaining peace for the country in the conditions of the current occupation and challenges is a daily task.

“For us, this is a highest value - the country's top priority. Of course, as we work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict, without which sustainable peace and stability are impossible. On this special day, I would like to address the people most affected by conflict and war. We will continue to care for them in the future. However, at the same time, I would like to say that these are people who truly understand the price of peace. They are the first to make steps to rebuild trust and reconciliation between our societies, which are barbed wire.

The 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall will be celebrated soon. I asked the German ambassador to address the people gathered here today. The demolition of the Berlin Wall is a very important symbol for us. I am absolutely sure that the kilometers of barbed wire in Georgia that today divides families and relatives exactly as the Berlin Wall in the previous century will inevitably fall apart and share the same fate as those constructions. It is impossible to stop people’s natural aspirations by the artificial barricades, tanks and walls. We think that we will definitely do this with a consistent peace policy”, - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

The event was attended by the representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, international organizations and the civil sector.
