State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with foreign experts Christophe Girod and Paul Emanovsky, who visited Georgia in order to get acquainted with the process of finding the missing persons (in the 1990s and 2008 armed conflicts).
The State Minister introduced to the guests the activities of the bilateral coordination mechanism, which aims to identify the fate and whereabouts of more than 2,200 missing persons as a result of the 1992-1993 armed conflict and its aftermath and to properly inform their family members. Its activities are strictly defined - humanitarian only. The specifics of the working of this mechanism were discussed at the meeting.
Discussions also focused on the progress made in finding tombs and exhumation of the remains. The sides also discussed future events planned in this direction.
Experts shared with the State Minister the experience of other countries, which may be taken into account by the Georgian side in future work.
At the end of the meeting, the important role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in determining the fate and whereabouts of missing persons was emphasized.
