State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili is paying an official visit to Latvia. Today she held a meeting with the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group.
During the meeting the State Minister talked about the situation on the occupied territories and the Georgian Government’s peace policy. She spoke in detail about the initiative “A Step to a Better Future” which is being actively implemented.
“It was a very interesting meeting with the members of the Latvian Seimas, the Georgia Friendship Group. We have shared information related to security and humanitarian challenges in the current occupation and unresolved conflict. It is of great interest, of course, as Latvia is our very close friend and supporter. Latvia helps us to overcome these problems. I particularly focused on humanitarian issues, human rights violations. We also talked about the policy of civil integration and in the end the main message is that Latvia will continue to support Georgia very much in the future. In this country, in this region it is better comprehended how it is to live under the Russia threat, because we have common sad pages of history related to the Soviet past. This is not the best time for the long history of our countries, as you know. They understand our worries well, they understand the worries of the people who are experiencing conflict every day and their support is very important to us”, - noted Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
Members of the Parliamentary Group reaffirmed the firm position of the Republic of Latvia towards Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. They also expressed their readiness to support the smooth implementation of Georgia's reconciliation and engagement policies and peace initiatives.
Tomorrow the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili will attend conference in Latvia and deliver a speech.
