State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili participated in a conference organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross in Nicosia, Cyprus.
The State Minister shared with the conference participants Georgia's experience and introduced the process of finding missing persons during the 1990s and 2008 armed conflicts, as well as the work of coordinating mechanisms under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The theme of the conference in Nicosia was "Exploring the Mechanisms for Missing Persons - Finding the Fate of the Missing and Supporting Their Families". It is noteworthy that since 2010 under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross, two coordination mechanisms for missing persons in armed conflicts have been in place, with the purpose of actively finding, identifying and handing over remains to families.
Within the framework of the working visit, the State Minister held a bilateral meeting with Commissioner for Humanity and Diaspora issues Fotis Photius and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Head of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar.
