15 November 2019

The main topic of the meeting with the Secretary General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Denmark was the situation in Tskhinvali region, the restriction of movement and the issue of illegally detained Vazha Gaprindashvili.

State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili briefed Secretary General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Roberto Montella on the crisis situation in Tskhinvali and Akhalgori regions.

“The main topic of conversation was the situation on the occupied territories. We discussed in detail the situation in Tskhinvali region.

For more than two months the checkpoints are locked. Such situation puts people in crisis in terms of products, medicines, movement. First of all this applies to Akhalgori Georgians, but also to Ossetians. It turns the whole region into complete isolation.

It was noted at the meeting that such steps are far from principles of humanity and humanitarianism and that no other position could exist. The international community and, of course, our partners in the OSCE are completely unanimous. We also talked about the illegal detention of Vazha Gaprindashvili. In addition to being illegal, it also violates the principles of rationalism and humanism when a doctor is arrested and for such incomprehensible reasons and accusations. Our partners are eager to immediately release of Vazha Gaprindashvili”, - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
