On the second day of her visit to Brussels, the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, met with Marina Kujundzic, Croatia's Representative to the EU Policy and Security Committee and Ambassador Sophie From-Emmesberger, the Chair of the EU Policy and Security Committee
The main topic of the conversation was Vazha Gaprindashvili’s illegal detention and the difficult situation created on the occupied territories. Especially in the Tskhinvali region, because of the closure of Akhalgori so-called crossing point.
"We have also talked about the need for EU support to solve these very urgent problems. Problems that pose major challenges violate fundamental human rights. It is very important that the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the Eastern Partnership format, as well as bilateral and sectoral cooperation with Georgia, be a priority task. This includes both shorter-term tasks - an effective response to human rights abuses, effective use of all existing humanitarian mechanisms, starting with the Geneva discussions and ending with various EU projects - and with a long-term transformation of the conflict.
“Georgia is an important partner for the EU. Georgia remains the leading country in the neighborhood in terms of its EU integration course and reforms. We have the support of our partners and I am sure it will continue in the future”, - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
The State Minister’s visit to Brussels is over.
