Event in the Memory of the 72nd Anniversary of the Deportation of Chechen and Ingush People

Under the arrangement of the State Minister’s Office for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, the event in the memory of the 72nd anniversary of the deportation of Chechen and Ingush people took place at the National Library of Georgia.
Representatives of academic circles, public figures, graduates of Georgian higher academic institutions, as well as guests from the Pankisi Gorge took part into the meeting.
The keynote speakers reflected on the difficult period, where the North Caucasians struggled against mass expulsion. The event represented a short documentary, replicating the expulsion process, portraits of the victims who lost their lives during the tragedy and the movie.
According to the historical records, under the decree of the Soviet Authorities dating 23rd February, 1944, the Chechen and Ingush communities were displaced from their lands and deported into Central Asian countries. European Parliament officially recognized the Genocide of Chechen and Ingush people in 2004.
