Under the arrangement of the State Minister’s Office for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and with the support of the UN Women an information awareness meeting with took place at Radisson Iveria Blue Hotel with the representatives of IPRM, civil society actors and NGOs.
The Head of European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia H.E. Kęstutis Jankauskas, the Representative of UN Women to Georgia Ms. Erika Kvapilova, Representative of Polish Embassy to Georgia and Advisor to Prime Minister on Human Rights Ms. Sopo Japaridze took part into the event.
Mrs. Marina Salukvadze, the Head of Unit of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Former Autonomous District of South Ossetia and Mr. Giorgi Jighauri, representative of State Security Service provided information about the developments and modalities of IPRM. The “Hotline” mechanism, as an effective communication channel was among the topics discussed. Aside the issues of human rights violations, restrictions on freedom of movement, illegal arrests, problems of irrigation and potable water, representatives of the NGO showed interest towards the activity of temporary governmental commission for the needs of villages affected by barbed wire fences.
Mrs. Marina Salukvadze gave an overview of the needs of villages that are located near the occupation line and the nature of activities implemented with the support of the commission. This included the activities in support of local socio-economic empowerment, in particular - gasification, installation of numerical meters, supply of potable and irrigation water, construction of ambulances, kindergartens and schools, also the issue of scholarships for high academic institutions, etc.
IPRM participants will hold information awareness meetings with civil society in future as well.
