Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination Reviewed the Reports of the Government of Georgia

The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination reviewed the 6th, 7th and 8th consolidated periodic reports in Geneva. The reports were submitted by the Government of Georgia on the “Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination” on 2 July 2014, in the light of the international convention.
Mrs. Tina Ghogheliani, the Head of Department for Relations with International Organizations and Legal Provision of the State Minister’s Office for Reconciliation and Civic Equality took part into the discussion.
Addressing the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Georgian side presented information on the implementation of the convention and the reforms carried out under these provisions. A special emphasis was devoted to human rights situation in the occupied territories of Georgia and the issue of persecution and oppression of Georgians based on their ethnicity.
The Committee members also received information on the implemented activities with regard to civil integration, involvement of ethnic minorities into political life and Roma integration.
The members of the Committee extended thanks to the Georgian Delegation for the work and provided information. The committee is due to adopt concluding remarks after review, incorporating further recommendations. The meeting with the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination took place on May 2-3 in Geneva.
