The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili has honored the Memorial of Heroes fallen in the Battle for the Unity of Georgia.
“Today I have come here to pay a respect for the memory of heroes. Whatever has happened 24 years ago, should not have happened. Unfortunately the results were in neither Abkhaz nor Georgians interests. The mothers in grieve are the first who talk about peace, reconciliation and dialogue as our only path to future. The past is painful. We have a lot of mixed families who are hardened by this pain even more disturbingly – we have divided communities, occupied territories. Therefore, our vision is underscored by the past – the policy of the Georgian Government is firmly based on peaceful, pragmatic and constructive attitude. I would like to repeat that the unification of our country primarily implies the unification of our people. So I send this message beyond the occupation line – blood, conflict and war should be enough for us. We should not ever let this pain unfold and of course we should pay a respect to the memory of all those people who sacrificed their lives. We should honor these heroes precisely through marching for peace in future,” – Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.
