Today the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili opened the session of the Commission.
“Representative of the Public Broadcaster has introduced ongoing and planned activities in the areas of media and information availability for ethnic minorities. Our priority is first to ensure that our citizens have access to current developments in Georgia and elsewhere through local media sources. Further, to create a space, where they are encouraged to share and explore information on their respective cultures and traditions; and finally, to promote reciprocal attitudes for the sake of our citizens to feel equal, whether or not they belong to majority or minority,” - Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.
The GPB Executive Producer Ms. Nino Khidasheli introduced latest developments in the area of Public Broadcaster’s coverage into national languages. Specifically, the GPB has started broadcasting news in Abkhazian, Ossetian and Russian languages since August 22; the news programs on 18.00 PM and 20.00 PM, respectively, have simultaneous translations into Azerbaijani and Armenian languages. In addition, the web-site that runs into five languages is due, providing access to information in Abkhazian, Ossetian, Azerbaijani, Armenian and Russian languages.
The session of Interagency State Commission took place with the support of the UN Association in Georgia.
