The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office on Gender Issues Ambassador Melanne Verveer. The issues of gender and women’s participants were discussed at the meeting.
“We discussed the importance of women’s participation in reconciliation and peace-building, especially in conflict-affected territories. We also spoke about political development and security and women’s role. I have met with countless representatives of the Government and civil society in the framework of my visit to Georgia and the visit was indeed productive and interesting,” - Melannne Verveer declared.
By the conclusion of her visit, Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili made a reference about women’s participation in peace and reconciliation.
“I truly believe that peace process implies more peace in the world – women have greater sensitivity with on issues like the fortune of specific persons, who suffer from the burden of unresolved conflict. Women are more prone to resolve humanitarian issues; therefore, I think that the topic we have covered today is very important – that is how to support and assist more active women’s participation, who come as first victims of the conflict,” – Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.
In subsequence with the visit to Georgia, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office on Gender Issues will draft applicable report that will be presented before the member states of the OSCE.
